NFT Preservation Phase 2 

__Update: Phase 2 of Nifty Gateway’s NFT Preservation is Complete__

As one of the first NFT marketplaces, Nifty Gateway is committed to implementing next-generation technology to support our customers and improve their experience interacting with digital art. One way we are doing this is by implementing Interplanetary File System (IPFS) pins for all NFTs minted on Nifty Gateway. In March 2023, we executed [Phase 1](https://www.niftygateway.com/blog/nifty-gateway-nft-preservation-phase-1) of this important preservation work.

Today, we’re delighted to share that we have just completed Phase 2 of this initiative, __updating contract metadata for 3,661 Nifty Gateway smart contracts.__

As of January 3, 2024, we've updated previous smart contracts so that all image metadata points to IPFS instead of api.niftygateway.com. This means that:

1. Both the tokenURI and baseURI files for 3,685 additional smart contracts now reference an IPFS link. 
2. These links include a pinned IPFS file for each NFT containing all the associated asset metadata. 

This work was all completed on-chain, and you can access the tx hashes from Etherscan [in this sheet](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1TEBjFDnN_wHzdtQKIYrO4s8AHtJXDDtzTlo6OOVBN3o/edit?usp=sharing). 

These changes ensure that Nifty Gateway-minted NFTs have metadata pinned on a distributed storage solution, IPFS, removing all previous dependencies on Nifty Gateway-hosted services. 

__What is IPFS and why are we using it?__

Interplanetary File System, or IPFS, is a well-known and widely-used metadata storage solution in the Web3 and NFT space. NFT metadata is the unique data linked within an NFT smart contract. It contains attributes and properties of the NFT, such as name, date of creation, serial number, artist signature, traits, etc. It also includes a link to the underlying content like images, videos, and GIFs. 

__What about previously minted NFTs not included in these changes?__

Phase 2 of our NFT Metadata initiative means that more than 80% of all Nifty Gateway-minted NFTs now leverage IPFS for metadata storage. 

We recognize that there are important collections minted prior to July, 2021 that are not included in this migration. The remaining NFTs will be handled in Phase 3, scheduled for later in 2024. 

We are finalizing plans to address the remaining contracts for previously minted NFTs and we will promptly communicate next steps and timing once confirmed.

__Q: Which NFTs were included in Phase 2 of Nifty Gateway’s NFT Preservation Initiative?__<br/>
A: 3,685 Smart contracts minted between July 2021 and March 2023 were updated during phase 2, see the full [etherscan tx hashes here](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1TEBjFDnN_wHzdtQKIYrO4s8AHtJXDDtzTlo6OOVBN3o/edit?usp=sharing).

__Q: What will happen to NFTs not included in Phase 2?__<br/>
A: We are finalizing plans to address the remaining contracts for previously minted NG which will be addressed in Phase 3 of these efforts. There is no action required on your part at this time.

__Q: How Do I know if my NFT has been updated?__<br/>
A: To view the IPFS hash for an NFT on Nifty Gateway, you can follow these steps:
1. Locate the smart contract for your NFT on Etherscan, 
2. go to “Read Contract”, and read the token IPFSHash field on the contract. This will show the IPFS hash for a given tokenId. This IPFS hash is written directly on-chain, is permanently immutable, and can’t be changed.

Nifty Gateway adds Transient Labs Sovereign Minting Smart Contract Integration

Today, we are pleased to officially add support for Transient Labs 721 Smart Contract (ERC21TL). This launch lays the foundation for future integrations with other Transient Labs tools, including their Shatter contract, Doppelganger contract, and more.

Nifty Gateway has long supported artists using sovereign smart contracts to mint artwork that is presented and offered for primary sale on Nifty Gateway. Whether by using the NG suite of minting Smart Contracts, Transient Labs Smart Contracts, Manifold Smart Contracts, or even their own Custom Smart Contracts (hi, Dave Pollot) - we’re here to support artists and their creative visions.

We are delighted to announce that shielded Zcash (ZEC) withdrawals are now supported by Gemini. Shielded ZEC withdrawals give you __an added layer of financial privacy__ within a regulated and compliant framework.

We store the ZEC in your Gemini account in t-addresses. If you’d like to take advantage of a shielded withdrawal, simply withdraw your ZEC to a z-address. We already allow you to deposit ZEC from a z-address into your Gemini account.

Immutable X | Nifty Gateway 

We are delighted to announce that [Immutable X](https://www.immutable.com/) NFTs will soon be available to buy and trade on Nifty Gateway. We believe that Web3 has enormous potential to redefine the gaming experience as more platforms integrate with blockchains, and Immutable X is central to that evolution.

By integrating with our marketplace, Immutable X-powered NFTs will be available for frictionless primary and secondary trading, creating a seamless experience for users to explore the Web3 gaming space. Immutable X NFT drops will also be hosted on the Nifty Gateway marketplace in the coming months.

Immutable X is an Ethereum Layer-2 scaling solution designed for Web3 gaming NFTs. Using what is known as zero-knowledge proof technology ([ZK rollups](https://www.gemini.com/cryptopedia/search?query=Zero-Knowledge+Rollup+%28zk-Rollup%29)), Immutable X aims to increase the rate of on-chain NFT transfers, trades, and mints, while reducing network fees.

We are excited to announce the upcoming launch of Nifty Gateway’s Collector Appreciation Month, a month-long celebration in June dedicated to our incredible community of collectors.

We love our collectors — your ongoing passion and support for creators have helped shape this vibrant community, and we want to express our gratitude by giving rewards for an entire month to celebrate you all.

__The TLDR:__

From June 1 to June 30, 2023 qualified collectors will earn rewards (credited to their Nifty Balance) on all qualified Nifty Gateway purchases, including NFTs minted on Nifty Gateway on both the Primary and Secondary marketplace.

Your level is determined by your qualified lifetime spend on Nifty Gateway. Between now and May 31, 2023, collectors have the opportunity to boost their level and increase the rewards they will receive throughout the month of June.

There are six levels, detailed in the matrix below, with accompanying rewards percentages you can earn for Primary and Secondary market purchases.

Collector Appreciation Month

Nifty Gateway NFT Preservation (Phase 1)

NFT Preservation is a critical priority for Nifty Gateway. So we're excited to share the first in a series of updates we'll make on the topic.

As of Friday 3/24, we've changed our minting process for NFTs:

1. Both the tokenURI and baseURI fields reference an IPFS link instead of the https://api.niftygateway.com/ field.
2. This change will eliminate concerns collectors have expressed around NFT metadata if the api.niftygateway.com field isn't accessible.
3. We also create and pin an IPFS file for each NFT containing all the asset metadata.

These changes ensure that a Nifty Gateway minted NFT has all required metadata hosted on a trusted distributed storage solution, Interplanetary File System (IPFS), removing all previous dependencies on Nifty Gateway hosted services.

__Why are we using IPFS?__

- IPFS is an industry-standard solution to future proof NFT metadata for the following reasons:
- It is a well known and widely used storage solution in the Web3 and NFT space specifically.

__What about previously minted NFTs?__

These NFTs will be addressed in Phase 2 of this initiative. We are working through a process to upgrade the contract for individual NFTs so they can have the metadata and references hosted and point to IPFS. We will promptly communicate when this feature becomes available.
