Dadaism adopted random, ironic, absurd and anti-art elements. Artists were in search of a new form of artistic expression, opposing tradition and academic rules. Dadaists worked in different fields such as painting, sculpture, poetry, literature, theatre, film and performance.

Dadaists opposed the seriousness and meaning of traditional art and resorted to methods such as using random objects, producing absurd texts and using uncensored forms of expression. For them, art was a means of criticising the decay of society and the absurdity of war. Dadaism can also be considered as a provocation because its aim was to disturb the audience and make them think.

Dadaism began with an art and literature group called Cabaret Voltaire, founded in Zurich, Switzerland in 1916. Later, the movement spread to other major cities such as Berlin, Paris, New York and was adopted by different artists. Dadaism began to lose its influence towards the mid-1920s, but it is considered an important turning point in the history of art. Dadaism had a great influence on later art movements and contributed to the development of avant-garde art.
