Lans King
@lansking
Lans King has become known for his radical artwork for which he surgically implanted an NFC microchip into his body. The microchip is the key element of his conceptual artwork entitled “This is my body (of work), 2019 - Ongoing”. Encased in a small glass capsule, the microchip contains a secret (cryptographic blockchain) code which represents the work itself.
It is also connected to all of his works in that it contains the algorithm that Lans uses to produce his physical art works. Lans’ “synthetic” paintings combined algorithms and digital printing with manual painting and drawing techniques. His body of work is realised as painting-video hybrids, sculpture, and experiential installations. There’s an interconnectivity between all of the works.
Lans King is a British-American interdisciplinary artist. Born in St. Vincent (the British Antilles), he was raised and educated in New York. He currently lives and works between London, Paris, and New York. His work was recently featured in a BBC documentary “The Cultural Frontline”.
