CONTEMPLATION - Magda Malkoun

What began as insomnia, became a peaceful encounter of calm introspection; a call to embrace our thoughts. It is this state of inner calmness and silence that gives birth to new beginnings. When you face your thoughts and listen to what they are telling you, you find peace and move forward.

ARTIST BIO

Born in Lebanon, in 1982, Magda Malkoun is multi-faceted artist who combines her interest in photography and sculpture into her practice. Being exposed to varying cultures and art styles, she uses different materials and textures not only as tools to paint with, but also to create forms. Malkoun’s oeuvre encompasses a series of figurative and abstract art inspired by the conflicts and bonds people form with places, events and faces whilst in displacement. Her signature style uses painstakingly organized photo collages to form abstract portraits.

Malkoun won the Best Emerging artist award in World Art Dubai 2021. She has exhibited her work at Art Dubai 2022, BULGARI Contemporary Art Award at Van de Goudenberg Art Gallery, Dubai Culture x Morrow Collective’s first NFT exhibition in Al Safa Art & Design Library, Gateway to the Metaverse in House of Wisdom Sharjah, Al Futtaim Festival of Arts in Festival City and at Ajman's Al Murabbaa Art Festival. In 2022, she exhibited her NFT work in the Vellum/LA art gallery in Los Angeles, United States and at Art Haus Beirut. She was also selected to represent Lebanon at the UNESCO Art Camp Andorra to promote peace and sustainability. Malkoun is currently living and working between Dubai and Beirut.
