For this exclusive offering available to existing owners only of the Bitcoin Angel two distinctive creations have been fused together to create a unique visual experience combining key thematic elements and concepts from 'Bitcoin Angel' and 'The Angel's Share' paintings and NFTs.
The Angel’s Share is derived from the legends surrounding the yearly evaporation of the volume from cask whiskey during its creation. Whiskeys are generally aged in wooden barrels with the wood absorbing some of the more unpleasant aspects of distillate and in return, imbues the liquid with flavours unique to itself. Due to the porousness of the wooden barrels, some of the liquor inside disappears during the critical ageing process with the result being a loss of approximately 2% of the total volume per year. Because the liquid evaporates skyward into the heavens, it was dubbed the angel’s share and thus this loss is playfully credited to thirsty angels with a taste for whiskey.
In this depiction the angel in question is the Bitcoin Angel in a new rendition inspired by Bernini's angels from Ponte Sant'Angelo in Rome. Commissioned by Pope Clement IX in 1667 Bernini designed eight pieces carved by his assistants with each of the angels depicted holding symbols of the Passion with this particular angel holding a lance being carved by Domenico Guidi.
Playing against a musical backdrop that emulates the recital of the choir of the Passion the Bitcoin Angel pushes through and forward from the abstract painting with its lance replaced with a Bitcoin token presenting the token as a new contemporary symbol of the Passion. The smaller angels, intrigued by this formidable presence, fly around and then off skyward as the Bitcoin Angel's own passion is revealed, consuming and draining the colour and palette from the imagery taking its angel's share and more as it is bathed in a celestial light from the heavens.
This NFT celebrates these two paintings and the concepts that inspired them, combining the ongoing success and journey of the Bitcoin Angel with the mysteries and industry legends of cask whiskey production as well as the creative explorations of the artist in seeking to bring together two very different images into a single cohesive presentation.
