The Rabbit Hole

Collection by Javier Arrés

Javier Arrés focuses, reflects and creates a universe in this collection around a term or expression of the current internet that is already part of the immense new catalog of contemporary expressions born from the world of social networks, podcasts and forums of all kinds online. The artist immortalizes and makes a portrait of this expression as a witness of its use, giving clues to the present lifestyle and our way of communicating and facing our world full of unlimited information. It ́s actually a digital genre painting, but from 2024.

The expression "Down the rabbit hole" refers to getting deep into something, or ending up somewhere strange. Lewis Carroll introduced the phrase as the title for chapter one of his 1865 novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Today An internet rabbit hole refers to the experience of getting distracted while browsing the internet and ending up spending a significant amount of time exploring unrelated or unexpected content. This often happens when a person starts with a specific topic or question, then clicks on links, watches videos, or reads articles that lead to more and more new and interesting content. This can result in hours passing without realizing it, as the person becomes immersed in a variety of topics.

Javier Arrés collection "Rabbit Hole" aims to revisit this concept or expression born in the English literature of the nineteenth century and update it visually to its new contemporary use arising from the most bestial technologies of communication and knowledge and also at the same time those that generate more misinformation resulting from the excess of this. A contemporary madness that Lewis Carroll never imagined, but to which 200 years earlier he gave a title.

The collection includes several of the most famous and historical Rabbit Holes of the internet, as well as invites the viewer to get lost in all the nooks and secrets of each work. Let your imagination fly, now it's your turn to get lost in this collection and make it your Rabbit Hole.
