Based in NYC, internationally renowned painter Michael Kagan is back on Nifty Gateway since being one of the original launching artists. In four striking colorways, Kagan has digitized his CERNAN sculpture, a project that he has worked on for the past year in the studio. The 3D form is based on the brush strokes of his most iconic large scale painting of the same Apollo 17 astronaut, Gene Cernan, the last man to ever step foot on the moon. Kagan‘s work has been displayed in numerous exhibitions worldwide, including solo shows this month on view at OTI in Hong Kong and Almine Rech in Brussels. Past work includes commissions from The Smithsonian, collaborations with Pharrell Williams, and an award-winning album cover for White Lies. He recently had a solo museum exhibition at Virginia MOCA and a monograph of his work was published in 2019. His work is in the collection of Nifty Gateway’s parent company Gemini Trust Company, Yusaku Maezawa Collection, Maki Collection, Founder’s Fund, and Hall Collection.
