Born in Überlingen/ Germany, Franck studied art at the art academies in Nürnberg (1987) and Stuttgart (1988/92 ). In 1993 he finished his studies at the university of fine arts/ Stuttgart (Masterclass R.Schoofs). After this he had his first contacts with photography over his brother who is also an photographer he switched from painting to photography. At the same time, numerous gifs and short films were created that take up the visual language of the photographs. This looks back and uses image quotations from the heyday of the analog era. Transferred to the present, they tell stories or fragments of history in a new visual language.
Franck combines the past with the present, painting with photography, stillness with movement. The works therefore stand for change and progress, for tolerance and social interaction. Franck’s photographs explore the elemental and expansive qualities of the medium, picturing a world aglow, one that feels known but is rarely seen. Photography’s past restrictions meet the unlimited possibility of its present and in constructing his photographic world he proves its existence.
