“The space between what is no longer, and what is yet to be.”
Liminal Spaces is the debut NFT art collection from Foreign Family Collective. This collection explores the “spaces between spaces”—the essential transitory locations we find both within and without ourselves on each of our journey’s through life. Everything is in transition. Exploring these liminal spaces and allowing for the past to bleed into the future offers a deeper appreciation of the present. These works of art reference the dream-like and tranquil experience of being alone in an airport terminal, or out on an empty city street as a new dawn rises.
In this collection three artists have presented their own expression and ideation of these spaces.
Skytea is a visual artist who has intuitively paired her own unique world of 3D art with the music of a myriad of artists including Alesso, Gryffin, BRONSON, Tears for Fears, Hayden James, Lastlings, MEMBA, Phantoms, Big Wild & Robotaki. Her artwork has complimented and enhance music for live performances, visual accompaniment and album releases. In addition to her invaluable contributions to many Foreign Family Collective endeavors Sky recently premiered a new work of kinetic installation art in Seattle, WA entitled Heliogram which explored the motif of a constantly rising and setting sun.
Landis Tanaka’s background in music and cinematography has led him to his own unique take on visual art. Informed by impressionism, minimalism and wabi-sabi his style simultaneously incorporates a deft technical precision with the beauty of imperfection. His work is an amalgamation of blurred forms, decaying structures and diffuse gestures wherein depth takes precedence over scale. He has worked with Aerosmith, Major Lazer, ODESZA, Mercedes Benz, League of Legends: Worlds XR, Tears for Fears & Phase One. As a composer of music Landis’ practice involves pushing the medium past its capabilities to explore the ephemeral and chaotic beauty of technology failing to capture the will of the artist.
Sound is the foundation of JapaneseDad’s synesthetic process of pairing motion to music. His work with ODESZA spans years, creating immersive cinematic visuals which achieve startling symbiosis with the music. His work in the arena of live shows has garnered international praise and has led to collaborations with Will Smith, League of LegendsWorlds XR, Major Lazer, Whitney Houston, and the 2020 Country Music Awards. JapaneseDad has also collaborated with renowned visual artists Steve Teeple, LandisTanaka & Victor Mosquera.
Foreign Family Collective is a record label and creative agency founded by ODESZA which has helped foster artists such as RÜFÜS DU SOL, Jai Wolf, Kasbo, Big Wild and many more. They have produced the visuals for international tours, hosted a number of pop-up events and in 2019 launched their debut visual art show with Victor Mosquera and launched a boutique destination festival entitled SUNDARA in Riviera Maya, MX.
A portion of proceeds from this show will be pledged to Carbon180 in their efforts to offset and reduce carbon emissions.
