** ENVIRONMENTAL STORYTELLING **
One of the reasons I think artificial intelligence is relevant as an audiovisual medium is because of its potential to tell stories in a whole new way. Its interactive nature forces the viewer to introduce input into its universe, that is, to exert work to extract an experience in return. Something that literature and video art have in common is their power to transmit the multiple, one could say infinite, layers of the universe that are invented. The Anglo-Saxons use the word worldbuilding to refer to that effort to delve into the character of a world, its order, its history, its sensations. It literally means "world building". But where literature builds only with words, video art can make use of the visual and environmental, of sounds and colors, and turn a mere atmospheric effect into a very powerful narrative experience.
THE POWER OF A.I.
Landscapes created with AI, specifically “Generative Adversarial Networks (RGAs)”, also known as GANs in English, are a class of artificial intelligence algorithms used in unsupervised learning, implemented by a system of two competing neural networks each other in a kind of zero-sum game. This technique can generate photographs that appear authentic to human observers. Simplifying the concept, this neural network is extremely efficient at "filling in" missing information. So it could have an infinite number of applications outside of video analytics.
