The New World

My first release, Uncharted Waters, used the imagery of graffitied vintage sailing ships to reflect a shared experience of exploration and discovery of a world unfamiliar to so many of us. My second release, The New World, moves that story forward by taking a step back and providing a bit of insight into the characters and events that launched those ships. Each piece in the collection - which was created using a blend of traditional and digital mediums - makes reference to those ships in one form or another. Uncharted Waters also carried the idea of exploration further by providing a puzzle - hidden information spread across the sails of each ship. The first piece in this collection titled The CryptoCartographer serves as a map that reveals how to find that hidden information and what to do with it once it’s been found. One of the most fascinating things for me to witness in the crypto space has been the proliferation of digital collectibles that seem to also serve as alternate identities for their collectors. The Financiers explores this idea while recontextualizing these identities as the characters in the story who ultimately fund the expeditions further into strange lands.

Landmarks (the collector only drawing) and The Megalith (the puzzle rewards) are both meant to be ambiguous as to their position in the timeline of the larger story, but both contain clues...

The last piece in the collection, titled The Emissaries, shows the inaugural ship as it embarks on its journey. To date, it’s the most detailed and labor intensive digital piece I’ve ever created. It’s filled with references that both tie the story together and reflect my own experiences as I’ve begun to learn more about the space (both as a creator and an investor).

All of the pieces in the collection come with a physical print (except for The Financiers 1/1 which includes the framed original painting rather than a print). Only those holding an NFT on August 5th, 2021 will be eligible to receive the print associated with their NFT. Artist will contact buyers via the e-mail address associated with their Nifty Gateway account to arrange shipping. Prints measure 24” on the long side and will be printed on matte velvet rag paper, each signed and numbered by the artist. The top bidder for The Emissaries will receive a hand-embellished print, and one print each of The Financiers Variant 1 and The Financiers Variant 2 will be selected at random and upgraded to a hand-embellished print (hand-embellished prints are prints that have been re-touched with oil paints by the artist; each is unique in its embellishments). Artist will cover the cost of shipping, however, VAT or duties may be due on international shipments and, if due, are the sole responsibility of the receiver.
