Cath Simard is a Canadian-born photographer, digital artist and a central figure in the NFT community. One of the most prominent artists in NFT photography, she’s now almost entirely focused on NFTs. Simard blends reality and imagination in her landscape composites. Collectors instantly recognize her aesthetic – surreal, cold, blue, mountain nights.

Due to the nature of her work, she only releases 8-10 artworks per year. Her innovative style and willingness to take bold risks are a result of her desire to be unique and the freedom she enjoys in the backcountry. With her work, she wishes to inspire others to break out of their own comfort zone and explore a world of endless possibilities.

About This Drop:

Over a three-month period during early 2022, I challenged myself to trek some of the most remote areas of Patagonia, in Los Glaciares National Park.

With the goal of defying my own physical endurance as well as the creative process, I set out with a 50 lb backpack of life-sustaining supplies, survival equipment and camera gear. A culmination of 21 days in the mountains to create 2 images, 200 kms of rugged and treacherous terrain with a total elevation gain comparable to Mt Everest and equally testing temperatures as low as -15c.

This experience was particularly reflective for me as I was faced with the obsession that accompanies the art I create. How I am continually searching for perfection in an imperfect world, the balance of fixation over small details whilst maintaining the authentic nature that I demand from the final work and the internal battle that it creates as part of my creative process. My quest to create the perfect composite has resulted in many failed attempts, where I would continually come back empty handed, aside my ever-growing fire within to persevere.

At the heart of this drop is the majestic Cerro Torre Mountain, central to both pieces. As the focal point, portrayed in two different lights, it represents my own battles on this journey between the artistic mind and life itself. ‘’Somnambulism” and “See You On The Other Side’’ are the epitome of both my inner and outer experiences, where memories, imagination, and reality collide.
