Almine Rech opened its doors on April 1st, 1997 in the 13th arrondissement in Paris. The gallery was founded on an axis of California Minimal, Perceptual art and Conceptual art. In addition to its stable of internationally recognized, mid-career and historical artists, it has always been the gallery's mission to continually seek out and integrate new, emerging artists into its program.

In 2021, Almine Rech inaugurated its second gallery space in Paris and its sixth international location, with additional spaces in Brussels, London, New York and Shanghai. The inaugural show at Almine Rech Paris | Matignon was a solo exhibition of new works by iconic American artist Kenny Scharf.
